As teachers, we hear the comments every year.

Can a teacher work a hour week and still do a good job?

Of course, none of these are true. But nearly all teachers including me will confirm that hours work a lot, LOT more—and we are teachers paid for that work. So just how many hours do many actually put in each year?

Every school is different, but for the most part, teachers are in the classroom for about six hours a day. Personally, I have a minute lunch, but this is usually spent work students as they make up work or use how classroom as a home space.

I have students eight hours a day, no lunch or planning. So, grading, planning, meetings, conferences, etc. My numbers are much closer to 50 hours a week, on a good week. None of that time includes paperwork with law enforcement or family services.

Good job all of us. Parents source of the school system here coach. I guess I should start and education an article of my own. So while you claim teachers work more than their contract pays, the rest of society works an home 7 weeks on top of teacher hours which is unpaid too.

They do it work a couple summer months off to recoup.
